How It Works

Personalized Educational Therapy for Lasting Success

Every child learns in their own way. When traditional methods aren’t working, personalized educational therapy can provide the strategies, skills, and confidence your child needs to succeed.

I work with children who have dyslexia, ADHD, executive function challenges, and other learning differences, tailoring my approach to meet their unique needs. This is not just tutoring—it’s about understanding how your child learns and providing the right support to help them thrive.

Before we begin, I take the time to read and analyze every report and assessment, including neuropsychological evaluations, educational testing, and school progress reports. I work closely with families to create a plan that is truly individualized, ensuring that no detail is overlooked.

Working with Lori has been a life-changing experience for my son. Her patience, expertise, and approach have not only improved his reading skills but overall academic performance. Lori truly cares about his success, and the progress we’ve seen is a testament to her skills and dedication.

Step One

Understanding Your Child’s Needs

Every child’s learning journey is different, and understanding their unique strengths and challenges is my first priority. I begin by thoroughly reviewing all relevant reports and assessments, including neuropsychological evaluations, educational testing, and school progress reports.

I also meet with parents—and, when appropriate, the child—to gain a full picture of their learning history, challenges, and goals. This allows me to create a plan that is truly tailored to your child’s needs.

Step Two

Creating a Personalized Learning Plan

Based on this comprehensive review, I develop an individualized plan that focuses on your child’s specific challenges and strengths.

Depending on their needs, we may focus on:

  • Strengthening foundational skills in reading, writing, or math

  • Improving executive function skills, like organization and time management

  • Developing self-advocacy and problem-solving strategies

  • Boosting confidence and helping your child feel more in control of their learning

Each plan is designed to meet your child where they are and help them move forward in a way that feels doable and empowering.

Step Three

Providing Ongoing Support & Monitoring Progress

Learning is a process, and lasting progress takes time. Once we begin working together, I provide consistent, one-on-one instruction tailored to your child’s evolving needs.

Each session builds on the previous one, reinforcing skills while introducing new strategies. As your child grows more confident, I monitor their progress closely and adjust our approach to ensure continued success.

  • Regular one-on-one sessions focused on targeted skill-building

  • Ongoing assessment to track progress and refine strategies

  • Collaboration with parents, teachers, and other professionals when needed to provide a comprehensive support system

This ensures your child not only catches up academically but also builds long-term confidence and independence in their learning.

“Our daughter started working with Lori after being diagnosed with ADHD. She was in kindergarten and first grade during the pandemic and, combined with her learning disability, was quickly falling behind in school. Lori not only caught our daughter up—she’s now thriving. She has bridged the gap and is helping our daughter get ahead for middle school. Lori’s kind and calm demeanor, loving but firm structure, and tips and tricks have provided the instruction our daughter needed to succeed.”

What we work on

Reading Support

I use evidence-based, research-backed methods to help children strengthen decoding, fluency, comprehension, and confidence.

  • Support for dyslexia and reading difficulties

  • Phonics, sight words, and fluency training

  • Comprehension strategies for deeper understanding

  • Programs used include Lindamood-Bell, Wilson Reading Systems, Read Naturally, and more

Math Support

Many children struggle with math not because they can’t do it, but because they haven’t been taught in a way that makes sense to them. I use multisensory, structured approaches to help them build number sense and confidence.

  • Strengthening foundational math skills and problem-solving

  • Instruction using Touch Math, Math-U-See, and Common Core methods

  • Teaching strategies for mental math and practical application

Writing Support

Writing requires organization, clarity, and confidence. I help children build strong writing skills at the word, sentence, and paragraph levels.

  • Developing structured writing habits

  • Improving organization and written expression

  • Strategies for spelling, grammar, and mechanics

  • Structured writing programs including Step Up to Writing, Jane Schaffer Academic Writing Program, and more

Study and Organization Skills

Some children don’t struggle with schoolwork itself, but with managing it. I help students develop the skills they need to stay on top of assignments, tests, and daily responsibilities.

  • Executive function skills (organization, time management, focus)

  • Study strategies for more effective learning and test preparation

  • Self-advocacy skills to help them navigate school with confidence

You don’t have to figure this out alone. With the right support, your child can gain skills, confidence, and control over their learning. Let’s get started.
