Common Questions
The Basics
What is educational therapy, and how is it different from tutoring?
Educational therapy goes beyond tutoring by addressing the underlying causes of learning challenges rather than just focusing on schoolwork. While tutoring helps with specific subjects, educational therapy provides personalized, research-based strategies to improve skills like reading, writing, math, executive function, and study habits. My goal is to help your child become a more confident, independent learner—not just to complete assignments.
Who do you work with?
I specialize in working with children who learn differently, including those with dyslexia, ADHD, executive function challenges, and other learning differences. I work with elementary, middle, and high school students who need support in reading, writing, math, and study skills.
Do you offer in-person and remote sessions?
Yes! My office is located in Calabasas, where I offer in-person sessions. I also provide remote sessions for families who prefer online learning, ensuring that children receive personalized support from the comfort of their home.
Process & Getting Started
What happens in the first session?
The first session is all about understanding your child’s needs. I start by reviewing any assessments, school reports, and learning history you provide. Then, I meet with your child for informal assessments to observe their learning style and challenges. This allows me to create a plan that is tailored to their strengths and needs.
Do you review my child’s previous assessments?
Yes! I take the time to read and analyze every report and assessment, including neuropsychological evaluations, educational testing, and school progress reports. This helps me gain a complete picture of your child’s learning profile and create an individualized plan that aligns with their specific needs.
How long does it take to see progress?
Progress depends on many factors, including the child’s learning profile, consistency of sessions, and parental support. Some children show improvement within a few months, while others require longer-term support for more complex challenges. My goal is to help your child develop strategies that lead to lasting, meaningful growth.
How often should my child attend sessions?
Most children benefit from one to two sessions per week, depending on their needs. I will discuss frequency with you after the initial assessment and adjust based on your child’s progress.
Parental Involvement & Collaboration
How involved should I be in my child’s learning process?
Parental involvement is key to success! I provide regular updates and strategies you can use at home to reinforce learning. I encourage open communication and collaboration to ensure your child gets the most out of our sessions.
Do you communicate with my child’s teachers or other professionals?
Yes, when appropriate. I often collaborate with teachers, school staff, and other specialists (such as speech therapists or occupational therapists) to ensure your child receives consistent support across all environments. With your permission, I can join school meetings or provide recommendations to educators.
